Not based upon size: mini hostas can be more expensive than larger varieties.
Market rates: although other sellers most often do not sell hostas that are as old and mature as ours.
Slow multipliers: some varieties do not “set many buds” for next year’s divisions. There are buds on most of the hostas customer's receive – next year’s divisions.
New to the market: cost more for obvious reasons.
Uncommon: some or our hostas are uncommon.
Take a lot of space: we can’t grow other varieties in that same space.
Do not divide easily: some hosta roots go straight down and are easier to divide. Others converge like a V and their entire root system can fall apart when cut.
I want to keep the hosta myself: I am hosta junkie too LOL.
I want the hosta to mature more: unless we get a certain price.
We do have sales of some varieties at times but not too often. We notify by email.
Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. However, we have no control over the hosta after it leaves us. If you do not want the plant after it is dug, just speak up - we won't be offended.
When things slow down in the summer, yes you can stop by when we are open. In the busy spring, we request you schedule as we have limited staff, garden and parking space. We will give priority in digging on the spot to those that book a time slot. This policy is subject to change as we continue to grow fast.
We try to dig when you visit. If you want to purchase over 10 hostas, we suggest you email us your order or visit and leave your order so we can dig it. We will contact you when it is ready for pickup.
If you are driving a long distance and need to return home same day, please email us ahead of time in hopes we can accomdate your needs.
No! We know what we are doing, use mostly disease free tissue culture hostas to start, have not brought in new soil since coarse sand was added about 30 years ago, etc.
We believe we offer good over-all value - quality hostas, fair prices, great expertise and information etc. We think we can maximize your gardening success and reduce your risk and efforts. You will receive quality information via your visit, our website, email newsletters and blog posts. These tips will likely help you prevent mistakes and "get it right the first time", reduce the amount of time and effort it takes to garden, and improve your property value. We will try hard to make you happy with your hosta purchases and visit.
